Aurora Aksnes' earliest memory of music is finding a grand piano in the attic. She was fascinated by its capabilities. Jan Oystein Aksnes, her parents May Britt Aksnes and Jan Oystein Aksnes, encouraged their daughter to pursue music as a passion rather than as a job. Her parents advised her to compose. Bjork and Leonard Cohen are among her favorite composers. The singer decided to perform her songs publicly when her mother suggested that they might help others not be famous with her work but to make the people around them understand their own importance and how they can affect the world. She started playing piano when she was just six and was writing her first song when she was nine. It was not until she turned 14 that she told her parents. Aurora was not a dream of her childhood. Aurora says she loves to compose songs. She says that music is her favorite way of feeling something.
